The 2nd Sarawak Oil & Gas Expo 2013, known as SOGEX 2013, held at the Miri Indoor Stadium, Sarawak, Malaysia. In the past report it has broken records and become Sarawak’s Largest Oil and Gas Exhibition, with over 100 exhibitors from 10 countries. More than 5,000 industry professionals to address the strategic, operational and technology aspects of the Sarawak oil and gas industry. In additional to the exhibition and there will also be a high powered conference presented by high profile speakers, and a variety of networking opportunities.
Sarawak wants to participate in onshore oil and gas production sharing contracts to create greater income and job opportunities for its skilled workers rather than receiving passive oil royalty. Minister of Land Development Tan Sri Dr. James Masing said at the 2nd Sarawak Oil & Gas Expo at Miri Indoor Stadium here.
He said it is high time that Sarawakians, much sought after internationally due to their expertise and ability to withstand pressure and challenges, be provided the opportunity to work in their own state instead of ‘bejalai’ (seeking greener pastures elsewhere).
“With participation in production sharing contracts, with Petronas in the picture, this should be the way forward for onshore oil discovery within our territory,” he stressed, adding that it could be one way to bring back skilled workers presently working all over the world in the industry.
